"Gazing into the Celestial Sphere..."

A lecture entitled "Gazing into the Celestial Sphere..." was held at the Dovletmamat Azadi Library in Arkadag for students of the International University of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. In ancient times, astronomy was also given great attention in our country. This is evidenced by information about the world-famous library of Ancient Merv. The first observatories in Turkmenistan were founded in Nisa and Ancient Merv, where observations of celestial bodies were made. There was also an observatory in the ancient fortress of Urgench, where world-renowned scientists observed celestial bodies. Ahmed al-Sarakhsī, a native of Sarakhs, wrote many works on mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy. The famous Turkmen mathematician al-Khabash al-Khasib, born in Merv, one of the most famous cities on the Great Silk Road, studied sundials. With the help of a sundial, he was the first to compile tables of tangents and cotangents. Mathematicians used these tables for a long time. Omar Khayyam worked at the Malik Shah Observatory in Merv in 1074–1075. He also shared interesting information about the observatory with his students. At the end of the conversation, they sincerely wished our Hero Arkadag and our Hero Serdar Arkadagly, who provide young people with ample opportunities for study, knowledge, and creativity, good health and long life, and that their work for the benefit of the state will always be successful.
